Smores Poke Cake is a personal favorite dessert. I love the combination of the chocolate cake, marshmallow cream, graham crackers, chocolate chips, and marshmallows. It's the perfect dessert for any occasion, from a casual get-together to a special celebration. It makes a good party cake and gives memories of camping, bonfires, falling leaves with cooler weather, or summertime.

What is a S'mores Poke Cake?

A S'mores Poke Cake is a dessert that combines the flavors of a classic s'more (graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows) in a poke cake format. After baking, holes are poked in the cake, which are then filled with a chocolate or marshmallow filling and topped with marshmallow fluff or frosting and graham cracker crumbs.

How do I store S'mores Poke Cake?

Store the cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Bring it to room temperature before serving for the best texture and flavor.

Can I freeze S'mores Poke Cake?

Freezing is not recommended as the texture of the marshmallow frosting may change. However, you can freeze the cake without the topping. Thaw it in the refrigerator and add the topping before serving.

Top Tips

  • When poking the holes, make sure you go near the edges of the cake. You don't want that part of the cake to miss the filling.
  • You can use any type of boxed chocolate cake mix or even make a from scratch chocolate cake.
  • To poke holes, typically a wooden spoon, skewer, fork, or dowel is used.
  •  Make sure the holes aren’t too close together or too far apart. If they’re too close together, your cake could be too moist; if they’re too far apart, there may not be enough filling throughout the cake.
  • After poking the cake and filling it, place the cake in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

How to make S'mores Poke Cake and Marshmallow Buttercream

  1. Bake cake according to box directions. Allow to cool.

  2. Mix sweetened condensed milk with ½ cup heated hot fudge sauce.

  3. Poke holes about 1 inch apart, using the end of a wooden spoon.

  4. Pour chocolate sauce over the cake, trying to get into all the holes. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

  5. Next, make your frosting. Start by mixing the butter and marshmallow creme in a large bowl or stand mixer until well blended.

  6. Mix in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until combined well.

  7. Pull the cake out of the refrigerator and spread frosting evenly over the top..

Ingredients
  

Chocolate Poke Cake

  • 1 box Chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients for the mix)
  • ½ cup Hot fudge sauce
  • 1 14 oz. can Sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 whole graham crackers or ¼ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup mini marshmallows
  • ¼ cup chocolate chips

Marshmallow Creme Frosting

  • 1 7 oz. Marshmallow Creme
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) Unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 2 ¼ cups Powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp. Milk

Instructions
