I am a total chocoholic, so this cake is right up my alley. This cake is what a chocolate lover's dreams are made of. As weird as it sounds, the cake has a chocolate gravy that gives it such an ooey gooey delight over the baked cake. Add some ice cream to the warm cake and it is just deliciousness in a bowl.

If you need a fast dessert, most of the ingredients are staples you likely have in your house. My youngest son made this years ago and it is an easy recipe to put together from scratch. Everyone will love this decadent dessert!

FAQs

What is a crock pot lava cake?

A crock pot lava cake is a rich, decadent dessert made in a slow cooker. It consists of a moist chocolate cake with a gooey, molten center that resembles lava when cut into.

How do I know when the lava cake is done?

The lava cake is done when the edges are set and the center is still slightly gooey. It should have a cake-like texture on top and a molten, pudding-like consistency underneath.

What toppings go well with crock pot lava cake?

Popular toppings include:
Vanilla ice cream
Whipped cream
Fresh berries
Caramel sauce
Chocolate sauce
Chopped nuts

Top Tips

  • Do not to stir the topping and batter with the hot water or the recipe will not turn out right.
  • Store for 3-4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Warm in 30 second intervals when serving from the refrigerator to keep the warmth of the dessert.
  • Pour the boiling water over the back of a spoon to prevent it from digging up your cake mixture.
  • To make this even more chocolatey, add some chocolate chips into the cake batter or on top of the cake mix when it is about halfway through cooking.
