I have a love for those cellophane wrapped honey buns. I have fond memories of them from my childhood. My dad liked one sweet roll in the mornings, whether it was danish, honey buns or cinnamon rolls. I know how much he would have loved this cake! After I made it, my boys and husband tried it and the reactions were great. Everyone wanted to keep eating the cake. It is so moist, soft and also has so much flavor. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

FAQs

What is a Honey Bun Cake?

A Honey Bun Cake is a moist and delicious cake that mimics the flavor of a classic honey bun. It typically features a cinnamon-sugar swirl throughout the cake and a sweet glaze on top.

Can I use a different type of cake mix?

Yes, while a yellow cake mix is traditional, you can experiment with white cake mix or even spice cake mix for a different flavor.

Can I add nuts or raisins?

Certainly! You can add chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts) or raisins to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for added texture and flavor.

Can I make a glaze with a different flavor?

Yes, you can flavor the glaze with a variety of extracts, such as almond, lemon, or maple, to add a different twist to the cake.

Top Tips

  • When frosting a hot cake, do your best to keep long strokes in one direction. This will help prevent the top cake layer from coming loose.
  • Pack the brown sugar when measuring, as this will release air pockets so you get the correct amount of sugar.
  • Store the cake for 3-4 days, keeping it tightly covered. Or store it in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
  • Warm any leftovers in the microwave, you will not regret it!
