FAQs

What is Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole?

Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole is a hearty and delicious dish that combines breakfast staples like eggs, cheese, and breakfast meats with crispy tater tots. It's typically baked in a casserole dish and is perfect for feeding a crowd at breakfast or brunch.

Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the casserole the night before. Assemble the casserole as directed, cover it with plastic wrap or foil, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, let it sit at room temperature while preheating the oven, then bake as directed.

Can I add other vegetables or ingredients?

Absolutely! You can customize your casserole by adding ingredients like:
Mushrooms, spinach or kale, tomatoes, green chilies, or additional cheeses like pepper jack or mozzarella.

Top Tips

  • Any type of breakfast meat (ham, sausage, bacon, turkey sausage, chicken sausage, turkey bacon) can be used with the recipe or no meat at all.
  • Don't be afraid to get creative. You can add vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or spinach to make it even more flavorful and nutritious. Customize the casserole to suit your taste.
  • Use your favorite cheese-sharp cheddar, mozzarella, swiss, colby, monterey jack, pepper jack, etc.
  • Don't forget to season your casserole. A pinch of salt, pepper, and maybe some herbs like thyme can enhance the flavors.
  • If the top is browning too quickly, cover the dish with aluminum foil while it continues to bake.
  • Sprinkle green onions over the top of the casserole, if desired.
  • Serve with hot sauce or sour cream for those who enjoy that.
  • Allow the casserole to rest for a few minutes after removing it from the oven to help it set before serving.
  • Store in covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 4 days.
