FAQs

What is Sausage Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Casserole?

Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Casserole is a hearty and delicious breakfast dish that combines layers of flaky biscuits, savory sausage, creamy gravy, and eggs, all baked together in one dish. It’s perfect for feeding a crowd at brunch or breakfast gatherings.

Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the casserole up to the point of baking and store it in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, let it sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes before baking as directed.

Can I use homemade biscuits and gravy?

Absolutely! If you prefer, you can use homemade biscuit dough and homemade sausage gravy instead of the canned biscuits and pre-made gravy. Follow your favorite recipes and proceed with assembling the casserole as directed.

Top Tips

  • Choose the right biscuits: Flaky, buttery biscuits will add richness to your casserole. You can use store-bought biscuits or make them from scratch if you prefer.
  • Precook the meat: Cook and crumble the sausage or bacon before adding it to the casserole. This helps ensure that the meat is fully cooked and adds a delicious savory flavor to the dish.
  • Make it ahead: This casserole can be assembled the night before and refrigerated overnight. In the morning, simply bake it as directed for a hassle-free breakfast.
  • Season well: Don't forget to season each layer with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices. This will enhance the overall flavor of the casserole.
  • Make your own country gravy. I always make my own, other than this casserole, which I'm using the package gravy for faster preparation.
  • Let it rest: After baking the casserole, allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps the flavors meld together and allows the casserole to set slightly, making it easier to serve.
  • If you have leftovers, place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
