Sour Cream Beef Noodle Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish that combines ground beef, egg noodles, sour cream, and a savory tomato cheesy sauce. It’s baked with a layer of melted cheese on top, making it a favorite for family dinners and potlucks.

Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

Can I freeze Sour Cream Beef Noodle Casserole?

Yes, you can freeze the assembled (but unbaked) casserole. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil, then freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before baking as directed.

What can I serve with Sour Cream Beef Noodle Casserole?

This casserole pairs well with a variety of side dishes such as: a fresh green salad with a light vinaigrette, steamed or roasted vegetables (e.g., broccoli, green beans, carrots), garlic bread or dinner rolls.

Top Tips

  • Cook the pasta just until it's al dente, or slightly firm to the bite. Overcooking the pasta will result in a mushy casserole.
  • Experiment with different cheeses to find your favorite combination. Cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend of cheeses can add depth to the dish.
  • Consider adding your favorite veggies to cook and soften with the beef, such as bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms. Chop them into small pieces so they cook evenly.
  • If you have leftovers, place them in an airtight container or covered tightly with plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Hi, Vicki! Yes, you can freeze this casserole until you are ready to eat it. Freeze it in a freezer safe dish and cover tightly with plastic wrap and also with aluminum foil. This will help to prevent any freezer burn. Bake it from frozen, covered with aluminum foil for 45 minutes, then uncovered for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly. I hope you enjoy it!
