What is Bubble Up Lasagna?

Bubble Up Lasagna is a fun and easy twist on traditional lasagna. It features all the classic lasagna flavors and ingredients but uses refrigerated biscuit dough instead of lasagna noodles. As it bakes, the biscuits "bubble up" and create a delicious, fluffy base that absorbs the savory sauce and cheese.

Can I make Bubble Up Lasagna ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the casserole up to the baking step. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When ready to bake, remove it from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before baking as directed.

Can I freeze Bubble Up Lasagna?

Yes, you can freeze Bubble Up Lasagna. Assemble the casserole as directed but do not bake it. Wrap it tightly with plastic wrap and then with aluminum foil. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then bake as directed, adding an additional 10-15 minutes to the baking time if needed.

Can I add vegetables to Bubble Up Lasagna?

Absolutely! You can add vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, or zucchini to the meat sauce for extra nutrition and flavor. Sauté the vegetables with the meat or separately before adding them to the sauce.

What can I use instead of biscuit dough?

If you prefer, you can use refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough as an alternative to biscuit dough. Cut the dough into small pieces and proceed with the recipe as directed.

Top Tips

  • Cut the biscuits with either a knife, pizza cutter, or kitchen scissors.
  • Use the full size tube of biscuits (16 oz). Buttermilk or butter biscuits work fine.
  • If you need extra seasonings, add in onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, or any of your favorites.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs such as basil or parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
  • Let the bubble up lasagna rest for 10 minutes after baking to allow the cheese to settle and the flavors to meld together.
  • If desired, prepare the dish ahead of time and keep it refrigerated for up to 2 days. To do this, prepare as you normally would, then cover and refrigerate until you are ready to cook it.
